About
Hey, I’m Blaq Butterfly
Creator of The Circle of Becoming a space where Black women learn to exhale, heal, and step into who they’re becoming.
A few years ago, I would have told you I was fine. Strong. Capable. The friend everyone could count on. Full of drive and ambition.
The truth? I was running on fumes surviving, not living. Giving everything away and wondering why I felt so empty.
I was the strong friend with no one to lean on. The healer who needed healing. The woman who said yes to everyone except herself.
The Journey to Becoming
Then everything fell apart in the way things sometimes need to. And I was forced to rebuild, not back into who I was, but into who I’m becoming.
This blog became that journey. The messy, honest, still figuring it out process of healing. Of learning my worth. Of discovering rest after a lifetime of hypervigilance. Of choosing myself after years of choosing everyone else.
I started writing because I needed to process my own healing. But the more I shared, the more I realized I wasn’t alone. There were thousands of Black women navigating the same journey breaking generational cycles, learning to rest, discovering their worth, and figuring out what comes after survival.
The Circle of Becoming isn’t just a blog. It’s a homecoming. A space where we can be honest about the weight we carry, the patterns we’re breaking, and the women we’re becoming.
Some reflections are shared freely because access matters. Others are offered through a paid subscription for those ready to go deeper into the work. Either way, if you’re here, you’ve found your people.
What I Believe
Healing Is Not Linear
Growth doesn’t follow a straight line. There will be setbacks, revelations, and seasons of rest. All of it matters.
Your Worth Is Inherent
You don’t earn value through productivity, perfection, or people pleasing. You were born worthy, full stop.
Rest Is Resistance
In a world that demands we keep going, choosing rest is revolutionary. Exhaustion is not a badge of honor.
Community Over Competition
We rise together. Black women supporting Black women isn’t just powerful..it’s essential.
Faith Anchors the Journey
God meets us in the mess. Faith doesn’t mean having all the answers it means trusting the process of becoming.
Transformation Takes Time
You don’t become a butterfly overnight. Honor the cocoon season. The waiting is part of the work.
The Mission
The Circle of Becoming exists to create space for Black women to heal, grow, and become without apology, without performance, without proving ourselves worthy of rest.
- To normalize therapy, boundaries, and choosing yourself
- To center Black women’s voices, experiences, and healing
- To break generational cycles and create new legacies
- To build a community where strong women can also be soft
- To remind you that you don’t have to have it all figured out
- To hold space for the messy, honest work of becoming
