There was a season of my life when I wanted to dedicate some serious time to traveling. And being the resourceful woman that I am, I thought I had figured out the perfect way to make it affordable:
Girl, just go work for an airline. 😂
Free and discounted flights? Sign me up.
What I did not consider was the WORK that came with those flight benefits. Chillllle! Let’s just say they definitely make you earn those benefits — unless you know how to move smart. And as a rookie who was simply trying to find a cheaper way to make my travel goals make sense, I had to learn some things the hard way.
But one thing I absolutely loved about that season was discovering the art of the day trip.
I remember wanting to try some vegan Cajun food one day. And instead of saying, “Maybe one day when I visit New Orleans,” I got up, caught a flight to New Orleans, spent the day eating and exploring, and flew right back home.
I did the same thing with Miami.
Sometimes I didn’t need a five-day vacation. I just wanted to sit on somebody’s beach, get away from my normal surroundings for a few hours, clear my head, and come home.
Those experiences taught me something: travel doesn’t always have to be a huge production.
Sometimes you need a week away.
Sometimes you need a weekend.
And sometimes you just need to get up and GO.
